Greg Furlong has a BASc (mechanical) from the University of Ottawa and a BMus from the University of Toronto. He has worked in energy conservation and related fields since 1995, starting with Toronto’s Green$aver. In 2002, he taught bicycle mechanics in Havana while working with the CIDA-funded project Bicicletas Cruzando Fronteras. He now specializes in auditing multifamily residential buildings and runs QA and training programs for EnviroCentre.
Alan Leonard owned his own construction and renovation company for many years, and has worked on everything from 150+ year old homes to new solar houses. His technical training and certifications include: Home Inspection Certificate, Algonquin College; H.R.A.I. certifications in Ventilation Design and Installation, Heat Loss/Gain; Home Energy Rater Certificate; W.E.T.T. R-2000 Builders course; EnerQuality Corp. Defect Recognition and Reporting.
Scott Meyer graduated in Environment and Resource Studies at the University of Waterloo and has been involved with the construction and renovation trades for more than a decade. He has performed over 1,800 EnerGuide for Houses or ecoEnergy evaluations and recently established Ecowise Consulting, a company dedicated to comprehensive and customer-service oriented energy audits throughout the Ottawa region.
Brad Richardson has many years of experience in commercial and residential construction in a variety of trades. During that time he developed a strong working knowledge of building standards and practices used today, including new building systems like ICF homes. His renovation background has helped him identify building envelope defects while evaluating over 1,000 homes through the ecoEnergy Retrofit Program.
Tim Vander Meer graduated from Algonquin College in 2003 as an electrical engineering technician and spent the next five years working with Energy Ottawa to help reduce the electrical consumption of large commercial and recreational facilities in the Ottawa area. Tim’s interest in housing construction and trades, as well as energy efficiency, made home energy auditing a natural move.
Stephen Ferland a graduate of Pavilion Professional’s Construction and Maintenance Electrical program, as an Electrician Stephen worked primarily on new residential construction. His technical training and certifications include: Home Inspection Certificate from Algonquin college. O.B.C-Building Envelope, O.B.C.-Health & Safety, Plumbing Systems, Home Heating Systems, Carpentry Framing, Septic systems, Asbestos Awareness. Doug Potts has been working in the home construction, renovation and maintenance business for private homeowners and MURBs since 1995. He graduated from the Algonquin College Home Inspector program with honours. He has since added Radon inspection and measurement to his expertise.
John Galbraith graduated from Carleton University with a BSc. He has worked in customer service related fields for 35 years primarily in telecommunications with Rogers and with Bell. He worked as a technical trainer for 8 years and also trained non-technical staff on technical issues. He has completed more than 1,500 EnerGuide for Houses or ecoENERGY Home energy evaluations since 2004. He has a strong passion for protecting the environment and is an avid outdoorsman, but understands home owners’ budget concerns, and can explain energy upgrade options in realistic and understandable terms that make sense.
Tom Abbott worked at Queens University in Kingston, as a Research Technologist following his graduation from St. Lawrence College. His extensive background in science and his attention to detail complement his work as an energy advisor. Tom’s professional training and personal experience help him in educating homeowners about retrofit upgrades that will meet their energy conservation goals. Tom recognizes that all customer energy retrofits are unique and he strives to consider energy retrofit upgrades as well as the homeowner’s budget. Steven Wright was born and raised in Ottawa, graduated from Carleton University and spent 28 years working for Bell Canada before retiring in 2008. His love of building cottages and houses motivated him to return to school, where he graduated with a Certificate in Home Inspection services. Steve’s interest in environmental issues and strong belief in the benefits and goals of the ecoEnergy Homes – Retrofit Program lead him to become a Certified Energy auditor for Natural Resources Canada. His company, Cozy Homes Energy Audits Inc., provides service to Ottawa and the surrounding area.
Gaetan Bernier is a certified eco ENERGY advisor with a lot of experience in performing evaluations. His business Bernier 3D Inspections offers professional home inspections in Ottawa and surrounding areas. Committed to providing bilingual service, he is also a member of the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspector.
Rolf Floeren’s background has provided him with a solid understanding of engineering principles and the fundamentals of house design/construction. His education includes the Mechanical Engineering Technology program and the Home Inspectors Certificate from Algonquin College. His work experience has included apprenticeships in Germany as a Tool and Die maker. He has a strong belief in the importance of protecting our environment and the need to encourage household sustainable behaviors.
Franklin Menendez has worked in residential construction for many years and has seen inside the cavities of practically every type of house in Ottawa. After 20 years he decided to apply his renovation expertise to the energy efficiency field and has now completed over 700 EnerGuide for Houses or ecoEnergy evaluations while continuing his woodworking business. Kevin Martin graduated from Fanshawe College with a photography degree in 1997 but spent many years building and renovating homes in his area and is also a partner in a landscaping and excavation business. He was very excited to be a certified energy advisor and puts both his knowledge and his passion to good use. Living in the Ottawa Valley and as a volunteer firefighter, Kevin is committed to improving his community and sees this as another way to do so.
Peter Milne has a BSc from the University of Guelph. Upon graduating he worked for an engineering consulting firm in Toronto for 2 years publishing studies on solar heating and energy conservation in new housing. Peter then formed his own construction firm and built custom homes in Toronto for 30 years. In 2008 he moved to Ottawa to be closer to his Gatineau cottage and became certified as an energy auditor and home inspector. Peter has completed his training for registration as an advisor in the Energy Star for New Houses program and is currently working on his accreditation as a Certified LEED AP for Homes.
