It Is What It Is: A Dark & Tender Comedy for the Climate Crisis
On October 24th, 29th, and 30th, six drama therapists try to make sense of senseless times and question the unanswerable.
At the heart of the 2020 Theatre for Change production, It Is What It Is: A Dark and Tender Comedy for the Climate Crisis, is interconnectedness—both its challenges, given this precarious and divisive time, and its possibilities.
It Is What It Is combines filmed segments, live video feeds, and the non-human world to invite audiences into a unique virtual experience.
The process and production are attempts to regain intimate connection with the earth and one another, and become a living record of how a group of human beings worked together to create something meaningful in the midst of a pandemic, continued state-sanctioned violence, and the recognition that the climate crisis is here, now. Cycling through emotional responses toward the climate crisis, the ensemble grapples with how to make change, what might be missing, and how to dismantle oppressive systems as we strive for ecological justice.
