Launch of the Ottawa Fossil Fuel Treaty Campaign
What do Toronto, Vancouver, Bonn, Barcelona and Los Angeles have in common? They’ve all endorsed the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, joining over 40 cities globally! Now it’s time for Ottawa to step up.
While Ottawa has declared a Climate Emergency, we’re demanding further action to phase out fossil fuels and fast-tracking progress towards safer and more cost-effective solutions and a just transition for all.
Join us as we launch the campaign calling on Ottawa City Council to endorse the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, and learn how and why Toronto City Council did so.
Speakers:
Bisma Zahid, Ecology Ottawa
Seble Samuel, Cities Campaign Lead, Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative
Councillor Catherine McKenney, Ottawa City Council, Somerset Ward
Councillor Mike Layton, Toronto City Council, University-Rosedale Ward
Members of the campaign include: Ecology Ottawa, 350.org Ottawa, Below 2C, Community Associations for Environmental Sustainability (CAFES), Citizens Climate Lobby Canada, Climate Justice Ottawa, Courage Ottawa, Enviro Crew Old Ottawa South, For Our Kids Ottawa Gatineau, Horizon Ottawa
