Green Homes Showcase Opens the Door of Ottawa’s Most Sustainable Homes

Ottawa, September 13th, 2013: Residents interested in green building renovations and sustainable design are invited to tour some of our community’s most inspiring and sustainable homes during the Green Homes Showcase on September 28th from 12 PM to 4 PM.
As a free, doors-open style event, the Green Homes Showcase features 10 homes with the latest green technologies and design that maximize household energy efficiency, improve comfort and increase overall resale value.

Energy advisors, contractors, installers, architects and other green sector professionals will also be on hand to provide technical expertise and answer residents’ questions about their own projects.

Visit any of the diverse homes on display across the Ottawa region and join homeowners on a guided tour of their property. Historic heritage homes, new developments, condominiums and rural homes are all featured on the tour. The renovations at each site have been tailored to each homes’ age, location and size – offering insight for a wide range of homeowners and prospective buyers. For a complete listing of homes, please visit www.envirocentre.ca/greenhomes.
“This is a rare opportunity to gain access to some of Ottawa’s greenest homes and to hear directly from homeowners about their experiences selecting and then living with new and sustainable products”, said Michael Murr, Executive Director of EnviroCentre. “Whether you are buying or selling a home, planning a renovation or simply looking for ideas, there is something here for everyone”.

Some of the tour highlights include solar heated pools and domestic hot water, microFIT installations, geothermal, sustainable flooring and cabinets, solar blinds and screens, passive solar design, fibreglass windows, LED lighting, and much more.

This 2nd annual event is an initiative of EnviroCentre and the Social Planning Council of Ottawa’s Building Greener Futures Together program to promote green collared jobs and sustainable building practices. The Green Homes Showcase is made possible in part by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Government of Ontario.
