What does a successful housing retrofit look like in practice?

At this year’s ONPHA Conference, the annual gathering of the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA), Aaron Nunes, Outreach Lead at EnviroCentre, will join housing and industry partners to share lessons from a major retrofit project at Peterborough Housing Corporation. The conference brings together housing providers, sector leaders, government representatives, and industry partners from across Ontario to explore solutions to the challenges facing community housing.

On October 29, Aaron will take part in Inside a Successful Retrofit: Collaboration, Comfort and Climate Resilience, a panel exploring how organizations with different expertise worked together to improve building performance, support electrification, enhance climate resilience, and create a more comfortable living environment for residents.

Aaron will be joined by:

  • Brendan Le, Capital and Special Projects Assistant, Peterborough Housing Corporation
  • Renu Tahlan, VP, Strategy & Sales and GM (Acquired Businesses), Great Northern Insulation
  • Jessica Pennington, Sustainability & Partnerships Manager, 1Click Energy Solutions
  • Nathan Horton, CEO, 1Click Heating & Cooling

Together, the panel will discuss the technical, operational, and partnership strategies that helped bring the project to life, offering practical insights for housing providers looking to advance affordability, energy performance, and climate resilience.

“Retrofitting existing housing is one of the biggest opportunities we have to reduce emissions while improving quality of life for residents,” says Sharon Coward, Executive Director of EnviroCentre. “We’re looking forward to sharing lessons learned from this project and connecting with housing providers who are tackling similar challenges in their communities.”

In addition to participating in the conference program, EnviroCentre will present the conference’s Award for Excellence, recognizing leadership and innovation within Ontario’s community housing sector.

As a Silver Sponsor of the conference, we’re excited to support this important gathering of housing leaders from across the province. Our team will also be exhibiting throughout the event.

Attending the conference? Stop by the EnviroCentre booth to meet our team, learn more about our work supporting sustainable and affordable housing, and chat about the opportunities and challenges facing Ontario’s housing sector. We’d love to connect.
