EnviroCentre Wins Award for Carbon Reduction Leadership

We’re honoured to share that EnviroCentre has been recognized with the Largest Contributor to Carbon Reduction award as part of Green Communities Canada’s 2025 Green Community Awards.

This award celebrates the organization in the Green Communities Canada network that achieved the highest cumulative greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions across all program areas in 2024. Thanks to the dedication of our team, partners, and community, our programs helped reduce over 3,500 tonnes of CO₂e last year—the equivalent of planting more than 57,000 trees and letting them grow for a decade.

“We’re thrilled to be recognized for the impact our programs have had in reducing GHG emissions,” said Jennifer Stelzer, Director of Strategic Impact at EnviroCentre. “Being part of Green Communities Canada means we get to build, share, and amplify our work—while learning from and listening to others doing incredible climate work across the country. We may have led in emissions reductions this year, but every GCC member is helping to build strong, sustainable communities. Climate resiliency is truly a team effort.”

We’re also incredibly proud to announce that Doug Michaelides, EnviroCentre’s Board Chair, was recognized with the Outstanding Board Person award. This honour celebrates his exemplary leadership, dedication, and stewardship over the past year. Doug’s contributions have been instrumental in guiding our organization through growth and impact.

We extend our congratulations to all of this year’s Green Community Award winners, including:

  • Reep Green Solutions – Green Community Member of the Year
  • Windfall Ecology Centre – Most Innovative Program (vHeat™)
  • Environment Network and London Environment Network – Transformational Impact: Community Action
  • EcoSuperior and Green Action Centre – Transformational Impact: Youth Action
  • London Environment Network – Equitable Leadership
  • And the many inspiring staff and board members across the network who were also honoured

Being part of the Green Communities Canada network is a powerful reminder that local action, when connected nationally, creates real momentum for change. Together, we’re building a low-carbon, climate-resilient future one community at a time.
