Ottawa-Gatineau Bike Share Feasibility Study
This report presents a feasibility study and implementation plan for establishing a bike share system in the Ottawa-Gatineau National Capital Region.
Bike share systems provide affordable, on-demand access to cycling as a practical, low-cost, and low-carbon mode of transportation โ and across North America, 74% of shared bike and scooter users rely on these devices to connect to transit. In the National Capital Region, bike share represents a key missing piece of the transportation network, offering a solution to existing barriers such as limited bike access, insufficient secure parking, bike theft, and the need for convenient one-way and intermodal trips.
Between October 2024 and May 2025, a coalition of regional partners โ including the City of Ottawa, Ville de Gatineau, the National Capital Commission, OC Transpo, and EnviroCentre โ came together to assess the feasibility of bringing bike share to the region. Led by Mobycon and EnviroCentre, the study developed a regional vision, evaluated service areas and governance models, and produced a bold, practical implementation plan to bring bike share back to the National Capital Region.
